Grilled Huli Huli Turkey Drumsticks
8 OZ. COOKED TURKEY 486 cal., 20g fat (6g sat. fat), 171mg chol., 671mg sod., 16g carb. (15g sugars, 0 fiber), 57g pro. PREP 15 min. + marinating GRILL 40 min. + standing SERVES 8
Ingredients 2/3 cup packed brown sugar 1⁄2 cup ketchup 1⁄2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce 1⁄4 cup sherry or chicken broth 2 tsp. minced fresh ginger root 2 tsp. minced garlic 4 turkey drumsticks (11⁄2 lbs. each) Green onions, chopped
Directions
- Mix the first 6 ingredients. Reserve 3⁄4 cup for basting; cover and refrigerate. Pour remaining marinade into a large baking dish. Add drumsticks and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
- Slide the Grill Plate into Shelf Position 6. Turn the Function Dial to Grill, set the temperature to 325° and set the timer to 50 minutes. Let the grill preheat for 10 minutes. Drain turkey, discarding marinade.
- When the grill has preheated, place the turkey on the Grill Plate. Cook until a thermometer reads 175°, 40-45 minutes. Turn the drumsticks occasionally throughout cooking. Baste often with reserved marinade during the last 10 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes; garnish with green onions.

Quickly Separate and Peel Garlic Cloves
Place the head of garlic in a bowl and smash it with the bottom of another bowl. You can also smash it between 2 cutting boards. Next, put the whole crushed bulb in a hard-sided bowl with a similarly sized bowl over the top. Metal is best, but you can use glass or even a firm plastic food storage container with a lid. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to separate the papery outer layer from all the garlic cloves. Discard the skins and start mincing.
